There is a huge variety of Themes which i would like to explore but not all of these i will be able to persue as they dont lend themselves to a surface pattern background. I have chosen three differnt themes which i think would be suitable for a project theme. JOURNEY, MANHOOD and VACATION.
Vacation
This project there is lots of surface pattern opportunities which i could explore. I would be tempted to look at in particular the luggage and designs for suitcases for example as that is a major part of vacations and travelling. There is also the different types of transport to go on vacation trains, car, plane, boat, cruise. There is also all the different activities and food for different locations. I think that there is alot of variation which i can look at for this project because there is different pathways which i can go down in my specialism in surface pattern. However i do think that this theme could be maybe too easy to jump to a final outcome as I dont think that there is alot which i think i could look at and i think as i would get bored quite quickly. Aswell as this i dont believe that i could gather huge amounts of research or primary starting points in this area and so i think that possibly i wont choose this project as a theme.
Journey
This project similarly to the vacation project has got some good potential as i think that journey could be interpreted in different ways. There is different outcomes which i could explore such as the journeys through time for things such as slavery world wars royal family and things like exploration of space and new countries. Each can be researched but there isn’t a lot of primary research which i can collect there is also the emotional journey of things like depression and the life cycle which would be difficult to document and to put into surface pattern design. I think that this project would be more suited to someone doing graphics design possibly as a lot of those sub sections can be better documented as awareness posters for example and wouldn’t really work on an interior.
Manhood
This project i think i could really enjoy as i could interperate this project i want to. I could look at what it means to be a man with the socialising with mates sports drinking mechanics gym and then contrast this with other less stereotypical jobs such as being a stay at home dad or wearing louder and more self expressive clothes. I think that in this project i could incorporate some of my own interests into this project which i haven’t done in my other projects so I think it will be interesting to do more about me in this project. I also think that if i was to choose this as a project then i would have a wide range of possible outcomes and would keep the project endearing as i wouldn’t know about an outcome until the time comes.
